Teneriffa hat viel mehr zu bieten als den Worldcup Spot Cabezo und die Bucht von El Medano. Vor allem im Winter gibts teilweise atemberaubende Wellen – man muss nur wissen wo und wann. Alex Mussolini wohnt in El Medano – und hat immer ein Auge auf die Vorhersage um keinen “Magic Moment” zu verpassen, denn er weiß welcher Spot bei welcher Vorhersage funktioniert.

Last years PWA Wave World Ranking number 3 Alex Mussolini, El Medano resident, is one of the local Tenerife Windsurfers that know about the variety of spots on the island and has always an eye at the forecasts to not miss one of those magic moments everyone loves our sport so much for.

Point-7 Black Team member Nicolas Akgazciyan zog es ebenfalls nach El Medano um sich, gemeinsam mit seinen Teamkollegen, auf die neue Saison vorbereiten zu können. Er hat es im April so richtig gut erwischt – sowohl in der Welle als auch auf dem Freestyler.

Nico checkte alle Spots rund um El Medano und scorte echte Spaßbedingungen. Wie auch für die letzten El Medano Clips ist Bartek Jankowski für dieses Meisterwerk verantwortlich. Checkt es aus – das Teil rockt!

As a member Point-7‘s Black Team, the french freestyler Nicolas Akgazciyan travelled to Tenerife in April 2013 to be well prepared for the first PWA competition of the year. He scored it EPIC for both Waves and Freestyle and managed to check all the spots around El Medano.

Vom ersten DWC Wavecontest des Jahres, welcher im Rahmen des “Rollei Summer Openings” auf Sylt letztes Wochenende stattgefunden hat, gibts noch einen kleinen Actionclip.

Wie berichtet gewann Klaas Voget in seinem “Heimrevier” vor Florian Jung und Fabian Weber sowie Manuel Vogel – die sich den 3. Platz teilen.

Here’s a little action clip of the first German Windsurf Cup (DWC) Wave Competition of the year which was part of the “Rollei Summer Opening” last weekend on Sylt.

As reported, Klaas Voget won in front of Florian Jung and Fabian Weber + Manuel Vogel on a splitted 3rd rank.

Spannende Tage in der Slalom Szene – denn 3 weltklasse events finden praktisch zeitgleich statt. Der PWA Slalom in Ulsan / Korea ist seit gestern offiziell beendet, in Frankreich starten über 1000 Racer beim Defi Wind und die IFCA Serienbrett Weltmeisterschaft läuft ebenfalls gerade auf Sylt. Gestartet wird im Rahmen des DWC “Summer Openings”.

Am zweiten Veranstaltungstag hielt die Wettervorhersage was sie versprach. Pünktlich zum Skippersmeeting wehte der Wind mit 5 – 6 Windstärken aus Süd. Insgesamt konnten die 63 Teilnehmer 2 komplette Slalomeliminations bei perfektem Sideshore-Wind austragen. Der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen ging als klarer Sieger aus beiden Rennen hervor.

Auch Vincent Langer zeigte sich in starker Form. Der Kieler verpasste in der ersten Elimination den Start und musste bereits an der ersten Halsentonne hohes Risiko gehen und stürzte beinahe. Nach starker Aufholjagd beendete er Elimination 1 auf dem vierten Rang. Vor ihm der Pole Maciek Rutkowski sowie der junge Holländer Jordy Vonk der hinter Asmussen auf Rang 2 landete.

In der letzten Elimination des Tages nahm der Wind weiter zu und somit herrschten perfekte Bedingungen für Gunnar Asmussen -  den 110kg Hüne aus Flensburg. Mit überragendem Boardspeed holte er den Sieg gegen einen diesmal fehlerfreien Vincent Langer, der Rang 2 einfuhr. Jordy Vonk kam auf Platz 3 und zeigte somit, dass seine starker Auftritt in Elimination 1 keine Eintagsfliege war.

Mit 2 Siegen liegt natürlich Gunnar Asmussen aktuell auf Weltmeisterschaftskurs. Rang 2 würde aktuell an Jordy Vonk gehen und Vincent Langer mit Rang 3 das Podium komplettieren.

Im Rahmen des “Summer Openings” konnte am 3. Veranstaltungstag auch in den “Waves” gestartet werden. Gute 6 Windstärken, welche aber im Laufe des Contests immer weiter nachließen, und eine tobende Nordsee machten den Contest anspruchsvoll. Überraschend früh schied Holger Beer, der deutsche Meister des letzten Jahres, im Achtelfinale aus. Nach überstandener Verletzungspause meldete sich nach über 2 Jahren auch der Saarländer Florian Jung auf der Wettkampfbühne zurück. Er zeigte eine starke Leistung und verlor nur knapp gegen Klaas Voget, der Sylt wie seine Westentasche kennt und sich den Sieg holte. Platz 3 teilen sich Fabian Weber und Manuel Vogel.

Waves overall

Busy days in the Slalom competition scene. There are 3 worldclass events in the same time – the PWA Slalom in Ulsan Korea is already finished, the Defi Wind in France is underway such as the IFCA Worlds on Sylt which is a part of the “Summer Opening” of the German Windsurfcup (DWC).

The 2nd day of the IFCA Worlds saw pretty good conditions with up to 6bft of wind. 63 competitors from all over the world had the chance to battle it out in 2 eliminations with sideshore wind.

At the end of the day it was Gunnar Asmussen who showed by far the best speed and scored 2 bullets in both eliminations. A bit of an surprise is the speed of Jordy Vonk – a young 19years old racer from Holland. He finished the first elimination in 2nd,- and the other elimination in 3rd position which means that he’s 2nd overall for now.

Vincent Langer, another favorite from Northern Germany, also showed some good speed. He missed the start in the first elimination and had to fight back with a high risk strategy at the jibes to get a 4th place. No more mistakes in the 2nd elimination. Langer saved the 2nd place behind Asmussen which gives him the last podium position of the overall ranking for now.

It’s possible that we’ll see some more eliminations coming up. Maciek Rutkowski from Poland ranked 4th overall and for sure wants to fight for a podium position like Casper Boumann who’s in 5th and Andrea Rosati in 6th position. We’ll keep you up 2 date.

“Summer Opening” – with such a good forecast and some decent waves there was no time to waste for the waveriders and their competition which’s a part of the German Windsurf Cup “Summer Opening”.

There was an high class fleet with Klaas Voget, who’s almost a local on Sylt and Florian Jung who’s back in the competition scene after a 2 years injury break. Both had a close fight for the first position but in the end it was Klaas Voget who made it. 3rd rank goes to Fabian Weber from Munich and Manuel Vogel. Congratulations everyone!

Steffi Wahl wirft einen Blick auf ihr Jahr 2012 zurück – und dieses war richtig erfolgreich. Sie nahm an allen PWA Events teil und zeigte in allen Heats eine richtig solide und konstante Leistung. Platz 5 im Overall Ranking ist die Belohnung – nochmals herzlichen Glückwunsch.

Steffi Wahl takes a look back to her year 2012 – which was a pretty successfull one. She competed in all PWA wave events and showed a really solid performance in every single heat. A 5th position in the overall ranking is the reward.

“Carro” ist einer der besten Wavespots im Mittelmeer und letztes Wochenende hämmerte der Mistral mit voller Kraft im Süden Frankreichs. Carro liegt 40km westlich von Marseille und bietet richtig gute Bedingungen. Zu den “Carro Wave Classics” waren neben einigen “Local Heros” auch PWA Fahrer wie Thomas Traversa, Peter Volwater oder Julien Taboulet gekommen.

Dank Sophia Regerbis haben wir ein Video vom Event – dass übrigens Thomas Traversa vor Julien Taboulet und Peter Volwater gewann. Jules Denel wurde Vierter und Fanny Aubet gewann bei den Mädels. Auch eine “Youth” Wertung gab es – hier gewann der Justin Denel.

Viel Spaß mit dem Clip – zwar ohne englische Untertitel – aber “Action” ist international.

“Carro” is one of the best wavespots in the mediterranean and last weekend the spot in the south of France – close to Marseille – was blessed with perfect conditions. Just in time for the “Carro Wave Classics”. PWA sailors like Thomas Traversa, Peter Volwater or Julien Taboulet sailed against some “local heros”.

Thx to Sophia Regerbis – we have a video of that event. Make sure to check it out below. In the end, Thomas Traversa won in front of Julien Taboulet. Peter Volwater finished in 3rd position – Jules Denel became 4th. Fanny Aubet won the women fleet and Justin Denel the Youth.

Ben Proffitt ist nicht nur für seine Skills auf dem Waveboard und hinter dem PWA Livestream Mikrofon bekannt – er ist auch einer der lustigsten Typen auf der Worldtour. Genau so sind auch seine Clips.

Der Neue kommt vom Wintertrip aus Australien, nennt sich “oh my god it’s windy” und zeigt den Engländer in starker Form. Double Loops und Tweaked Pushloops am Fließband – bis Ben sich bei letzterem unglücklich an der Schulter verletzte und seinen Trip gemeinsam mit Freundin Justyna Sniady abbrechen musste. Justyna surft übrigens in der neuen Saison genau wie Ben auf Segeln von Simmer Style.

Ben Proffitt is well known for his amazing wavesailing, he’s also one of the funniest guys on the worldtour – and so are his clips.

Here’s a look back to his winter in West OZ – “oh my god it’s windy”. The PWA livestream commentator was on form, had the doubles on lock and also the tweaked pushloops looking super good. Unluckily injured his shoulder and get back to the UK a bit earlier.

Jason Polakow und Hookipa passt zusammen – und zwar perfekt. Den Beweis liefert JP in jeder Session und für alle die nicht live dabei sein können gibt es mal wieder einen Videobeweis. “Home Hookipa 2013″ ist ein echter Hammer und Jason selbst gibt zu, “dass am Ende des Tages nichts besser ist als eine gute Session am Homespot mit den besten Freunden.”

Jeder der diesen Winter in Kapstadt zu Gast war hat den Jackpot geknackt. Der “South Easter” knallte praktisch jeden Tag für die kleinsten Segel im Gepäck. Sebastian Schöffel war mit einigen Kumpels auch wieder fast 2 Monate vor Ort und “musste” ganze 6 windlose Tage mit “Lifestyle” füllen – was in seinem Fall Skydiving, Safari oder SUP bedeutet – denn Welle läuft immer. Fabian Weber, zum ersten Mal ohne Freestyler in Kapstadt am Start hatte beispielsweise hatte in 6 Wochen vor Ort ganze 2 Tage ohne Salzwasserkontakt.

Everyone who travelled to Capetown this January / February really got South Africa at it’s best. Jackpot !  – also for Sebastian Schöffel and some friends.

Sebastian: “Year 2013 welcomes us with a warm and friendly south easter nearly all January and February. I think we just had five or six days without windsurfing.

Some of us made a safari, went skydiving, did a hiking trip to the Draken Mountains where we slept on 3000 m over sea level or we went out for a lot of SUP surfing!

It was so much fun with good friends and we will be back next year!
